Meet the Belted Galloway Cows
Two Belted Galloway cows arrived at the Zoo in April 22, 2014. The mother, "Yardley," and her calf, "Nessy," came form the Southdown Farm in Bedminster, New Jersey. Nessy was born on April 6, 2014. Both have adjusted well to their new home at the Bergen County Zoo.
Belted Galloway cows are a heritage breed from Scotland and were bred to handle cold winters. They have a mild temperament, but are very protective of their young.
This acquisition was made possible by the a donation from the Friends of the Zoo.
